2008 Clan Gathering

The programme for the 2008 Clan Gathering and a booking form are now available and can be found here.

After the Clan Supper on Friday 8th August there will be a short talk by James McCarthy author of "Monkey Puzzle Man - Archibald Menzies, Plant Hunter" which is available from the Castle shop. James McCarthy will also be signing books in the Castle at 9.00 on Saturday morning.

Clan Menzies Newsletter New Zealand Edition

The New Zealand branch of the Society have produced a newsletter which can be found here. Interesting reading for all members whether they are from New Zealand or not.

Email Contact Details have changed

Recently we have become aware that email sent to office bearers of the Menzies Clan Society (e.g. membership@menzies.org) has not been delivered or return to senders as undeliverable. We have tried to resolve this with the company who provides this service for us but without success. Therefore we regret that we have had to change the email contact details for the Webmaster, Membership Secretary, Castle Administrator and Secretary.

New Castle Administrator

The Menzies Charitable Trust recently appointed a new Castle Administrator on the retirement of George B. Menzies from the post in January 2007. His name is John Jack and and you can read a short profile of him here. We would like to take this opportunity to thank George B. and his wife Lorraine for all their efforts and wish them the best for the future.

Obituaries

The Society was notified of the following deaths:

Mr. Richard Alan Menzies Hogge died at home with his family on February 13th 2007. The Society was notified by his widow Margaret.

Mr. Alexander (Sandy) Arthur Menzies died peacefully on June 15th 2006 in Surrey England. The Society was notified by his widow Pamela.

Mr. Alexander Michael Mennin Sutton on the 22nd November 2005 in Forrest York England. The Society was notified by his daughter Elizabeth Smith.

Mrs. Gwen Menzies died in September 2006 in Edinburgh. The Society was notified by his son Tommy Menzies.

Ancestors Chart at Castle Menzies


Robert Menzies from New Zealand has been beavering away in the Castle putting our family histories into some order. If you have not filled out an ancestors chart please do and send to the Membership Secretary so that your records can be added to the archive. Future generations may want to research their forefathers and this is one way they can access the material
